  First visit to Salt last night, food was an absolute joy to eat. All three courses were full of interesting combinations of flavours and textures and the quality of the ingredients was evident.

  The food was to die for, but the service almost killed us.
  
  We were phoned at 6.40pm and asked why we were late for our booking. My wife explained our reservation was for 7.30, not 6.30, only to be told that we were mistaken. When she explained that she had been in the room when I made the booking and was certain it was for 7.30, she was told they could not accommodate us, regardless, and we would have to be seated in the bar area rather than the dining room.
  
  On arrival, the staff reiterated that the mistake was definitely ours as we could not possibly have secured a place for a Saturday night when we only booked on Wednesday. Perhaps we would have been cowed by this arrogance if the restaurant were fully booked and over-subscribed, however they found a table for us just moments after we arrived and the dining room was only half full for the whole evening, making us feel the attitude and rudeness was unnecessary as well as inappropriate. They did acknowledge that the staff member we had spoken to was French, and may have misunderstood us, but this was clearly not viewed as a failure of service, rather we were made to feel as if they were doing us a favour by seating us despite our “miscommunication”.
  
  Thankfully, the service did improve when another staff member took over our table and some damage control was attempted. But, despite the amazing food, we left with a decidedly bad taste in our mouths.

  Had a truly excellent meal here this evening. Next time we're in Tenby we'll definitely book a table here. Best fish dishes we've had in a long time. Great cooking. Lovely evening.
